The day the snow and ice came

Walk in a winter wonderland with Winchester and I:

School was canceled, of course. The power went out this morning at 5:45 and came back on mid-morning ~10:30 (I was napping, so I'm unsure of the exact time). It was long enough to feel adventurous, but not so long as to cause discomfort.

The desk!

I mentioned in my last post that I was getting a new computer desk.

This is a pretty bad picture, but you get the idea. It is old, you can tell by the dove-tailed drawers, but I don't know how old. It was originally a dresser! I have the mirror in the other room and my dad custom built a shelf for the monitor. But I think no one would even guess it, it looks so desk-like.
I was glad to find a chair that doesn't look too terrible with it.
I've added a new side-bar on the right. I cataloged most of my books in LibraryThing on a recommendation. It made me realize just how many art books I have and how many of my favorite books I don't own.

It is cold here. I don't know if it is even supposed to get about freezing. I think I'll make chicken and dumplins, listen to Fleet Foxes, and cuddle with Winchester. :)

a new year, still here

The best thing about 2008.

My resolution (although I'm not very serious about resolutions) is to get back into a schedule of working out three times a week. In college I swam laps at the UCA pool MWF at 6:30am. Before Winchester, I used a "toal gym" that my dad gave me. I still walk a lot, because of Winchester and I think he would like me to become a jogger (he would still only have to walk- there is no way I could keep up with his running speed!).

I'm excited about this camera:I bought it on sale at Sears over Christmas break and it is crazy tiny! I still like my old Minolta, which is bigger and has a better zoom, but this baby is going to go places! I can fit it in my jeans back pocket and it is not uncomfortable or awkward at all.

On the subject of things I've bought that I like, I lost this hat:
at Sekisui in Memphis. Prior to this hat I was not a hat-person. I didn't wear hats in the winter, despite all the talk about loosing the most body heat through the head. After this hat I felt cool with it on, I liked the way it looked on me, kept me warm, kept my hair from blowing around- but didn't flatten it. I couldn't imagine a more perfect hat! And so I bought a second from Target, because I missed this hat.

We had a snow day on the second day of semester test week, so naturally, I made a lampshade:
It is made from ribbon woven together. It is more than a little tacky, but will do. I bought the lamp base from Goodwill for $3 and painted it silver with paint I had on hand. I'm enjoying putting together things for my house. It would look really good if I kept it cleaner/neater!

I like my new cake platter:
It looks like a tree and has a bird on the side (left underside)!

I think it fits well with my squirrel teapot:

I hope the new tasklist feature of gmail will help me to stay organized.
I'm getting a new computer desk! I bought it from a flea market in Bryant and it is lovely. It used to be a dresser, but will be great repurposed.
